The Nürburgring-circuit, famously nicknamed „the green hell“ by Jackie Stewart, is situated in Adenau, Rheinland-Pfalz in the Eifel-region.
The circuit is composed of a modern grand prix racetrack built in 1984 and a prolongation which was built back in the 1920s called the „Nordschleife“ (=North loop), leading around the Nürburg village and medieval castle located in the Eifel mountains.
The above mentioned nickname derived as the old track is widely considered the toughest, most dangerous, and most demanding purpose-built racing circuit in the world.
According to the FIA decision, the Nürburgring and Hockenheimring are hosting the German Grand Prix in alternation since 2007.
